Setting the Scene
BioCup 2025 has arrived. After meeting my constraction buddies during the process of BioCup 2024, I was itching to get my turn to compete in 2025. For those unfamiliar with BioCup, check out the official instragram here. Though most of my friends didn’t have the time to compete this year, it was still fun to try and show off my building talents the best I could.
The preliminary round fell while I was away from my main Lego collection, so I was forced to work with mostly stuff I had acquired at Bricks Cascade. Furthermore, during the preliminary and first rounds I was quite busy with a summer research project at university and preparing/attending Bricks Cascade and Brickworld Chicago, so I had to work especially quickly. Without further ado, it was time for the preliminary round.

Dreaming of Ideas
Jokes aside, I didn’t really know what to do with the theme. I was inspired by pictures that had been sent in the BioCup inspo channel of dream catchers, but my rendition turned into an eviler pentagram style thing. I really can’t provide more context for the theming of how this build started out, as I just kind of built freely. Using some parts gracefully provided to me by Aiden (@Aiden.Builds), I finally got the chance to experiment with the constraction parts many great builds include such as Bohrok windscreens, Star Wars Shins, and Hexagon Add Ons.

Cleaning Up
After a couple variations, I decided on a stubby, headless, cyclops sort of guy. There isn’t much great insight into character design here, I really had no plan. I did however have a desire to include the fun new Glitter Purple Bricks I had picked up as well and Ninjago spinner parts (A Woomy World Classic) to make a fun little portal. Some days later and I had cleaned things up to a more or less final version. When I went to take photos however, I felt like the build was missing a bit of storytelling to tie it to the “Dream” theme. So, I added a baby to imply this was a sort of sleep paralysis demon! Fun right? Anyway, I can’t say this is my best work but it certainly did the job. I especially laughed hearing @Alex.mocs and @Jayfa’s opinions on this build during the live crit stream, as they pretty much saw right through the fact that I had no idea what I was aiming for lol.
